  1. I liked Atonement, too. I'm really looking forward to seeing the film of the book - I saw a trailer yesterday and it looks good.

  3. I've had Atonement on my "to read" list forever. Now that they've made a movie I better read it quick!

    Did you like Fahrenheit 451? My library system will be pushing that as part of a grant program to get the community to read classics again. I don't think they'll start promoting it until September, just in time for banned books week. (smile) I liked it, but because it was written in 1953 initially I had a hard time getting past the incongruencies of what really HAS happened versus what Bradbury imagined life could be like in a distant future. The characters were dated a little, in that the protagonist's wife was a typical "housewife" and there were so many references to people smoking in public. Then again, he wrote about television "walls" that reminded me of flat screen TV's and earbuds which made me think of blue tooth technology, Ipods, MP3's. . . He wasn't far off on the technological advances.

  4. Kim - I've been motivated to finally read books from my TBR shelves when I learn the movie is coming out. LOL I hope you enjoy the book.

    I did enjoy Fahrenheit 451. I had a little trouble stepping into Bradbury's world--I found the setting somewhat fuzzy and the symbolism was a little offputting. Still, I found it eerily true to life even today, the dumbing down of society, manipulation of the truth, continued efforts to censor and the like.

    Everywhere I go I see people who tend to read at least 10 books per month, while I can't go beyond 7, except when i'm in holiday, but that's been a very long time...

  8. Virginie - My reading amount varies. Last year was the first year in a long while I broke a hundred. It was a fluke of a year, you could say. I've actually read more this year than I thought I might so I'm feeling pretty good about this year. :-)

  11. Alice - It took me a while to get to Anna Karenina too. It's worth reading. I plan to read War and Peace the first part of this year. That will be quite an undertaking!

    Melody - I updated the list every month so that it would be easier to put together over the long haul. It's nice to have the list all in one place.

    I really want to see the movie Atonement too. It's still not showing in a theater near me though. Hopefully soon. I'm growing impatient.

  14. Wendy and Alice, I read War & Peace in 2006 with my online book club. It was a struggle at times, but I'm really proud that I finished it. If I can do it, I'm sure the two of you can too.
