Tuesday Tangents: More Random Thoughts & Happenings

Tuesday Tangents is hosted by Florinda of The 3 R's Blog

Doesn't a Brownie Batter Blizzard sound good right about now?

Thank you to all who sent me well wishes this past week. My wrists are returning to normal, more or less.

If I can pin my husband down, we will soon be clearing off the shelves of books we have read soon, sorting out ones we no longer want to keep and boxing up those we will take with us to the new house (still not date--but we did get a letter from the relocation counselor who is working with the city, saying he'd be contacting us "soon". Is the end in sight, I wonder?).

Once those shelves are cleared, I will be moving my TBR books onto them. I figure it'd be easier to sort them that way. Maybe even do a bit of organizing, so when the ones we're keeping are packed, they are all in order.

My dad is enjoying the boxes and boxes of books I sent home with them during their last visit. He jokingly told me that I must be a sadist after reading a couple of the Richard Montanari books. He did enjoy them, he said, but wouldn't be passing them on to my mother.

I was going to keep next year reading challenge free, unsure about where my reading would take me once the baby is born. A couple of the challenges though have caught my eye and are tempting me--kind of like that Brownie Batter Blizzard from Dairy Queen that I can't seem to get my hands on. I keep telling myself they're relatively relaxed challenges so not really challenges at all. If anything, the challenge will be actually reading books. We'll see. I still am undecided.

Despite my initial reservations (lack of experience, not really being a parent yet, and my concern over time constraints), my friend and fellow blogger, Caspette of The Narrative Causality, as well as my husband convinced me to join a new blog called Tales From the Toybox. It's made up by five women (me included) who are at varying stages of motherhood. There will be product reviews and tips (neither of which I'll offer a lot of at this point) as well as personal stories (you know how I like to ramble!) and questions. I'm excited about this opportunity and challenge. My first post will go up Friday.

I began my new schedule at work this past Thursday, which isn't saying much since I had Friday off. So, the next two weeks will be a good test at seeing how I like working the extra hour and having every Friday off. I have hour long lunches now instead of the half hour ones I was enjoying. Do you know what that means? More reading time! I completely forgot I was supposed to take a full hour last Thursday, but I did remember yesterday.

Remember that colleague of mine I encouraged to read last year? He is reading all the time now. I see him with a book just about every day.

I still want that Brownie Batter Blizzard.

What have you all been up to lately? Any Tuesday Tangents of your own you want to share?

  1. A lot going on, moving can be very stressful, but hopefully everything works out well. Don't worry about challenges and stuff, there will be plenty of time for that later on.

One hour lunch break sounds like heaven to me.

  2. Glad to hear you are feeling better, and I know just what a job it can be to box up and remove old books. I have to do this too, and have been putting it off for ages!

  4. Hooray for extra reading time! A lot of my reading gets done during lunch break, both at work and in university.

I'm glad you're feeling better, Wendy! And that's awesome that your co-worker can now be regularly seen with a book!

  7. If you pick up one of those Brownie Batter Blizzards, could you get one for me too? Sounds yummy! :-D

I had an MRI on my shoulder yesterday and will see the orthopedist again once the results come in. I am in suspense about whether he'll say I need surgery. Glad your wrists are recovering!

Forgoing reading challenges - unless you can get a very good start on them early in the year - is probably a good plan for 2011.

Hope you like the new schedule, Wendy, and that there's more progress on the move!

  9. Yeah, I purged my shelves about a year ago, and made room for TBR, but now I'm back to piling books on the floor again. Ack! I am off the challenges. I might take James' challenge just to read from my stacks, which is what I want to do anyway. But I'm tired of feeling the pressure and the guilt. I'm fickle and I like it that way.

  10. I think you need to get yourself down to the DQ and get yourself a blizzard. It won't be so easy to just drop everything and go soon enough, so you need to go now while you can.
I had my girlfriends bring me a Peanut Buster Parfait to the hospital after the birth of my first child. I had had gestational diabetes, and was craving DQ. It was fabulous.

  11. I've never had a brownie batter blizzard but is sounds yummy! I did have a hot fudge & caramel sundae with pecans (from DQ) yesterday. My sons and I were celebrating after they got their flu shots.

Today I'm craving vegetable pakora. :)

  12. I would like to say thanks and that I enjoyed your post, but instead I'm silently yelling at you because now I really really want a brownie batter blizzard. haha!

Fingers crossed all works out with the house move.

I miss having 1 hour long lunches so I could read, but like arriving at work 30 min later now that I just take a 30 min lunch.

Good luck with the new blog! I'm sure you'll be excellent at posting.

  13. The only reading challenge I am doing this year is a personal one; working through Mt TBR! So far kinda good.

I read 3 books and addd 2 books so thats progress right?

To start with you probably wont read much (read or sleep trust me sleep wins) but once you guys are in a routine you will find ways to slip it back in. I am now (8 months later) getting back to my reading groove.

Glad your wrist is getting better. Just continue to take it easy.

Also Im glad you decided to get on board with Tales. I think it will be fun!

Now spaking of chocolate, there is chocolate brownie in the fridge calling me. I had my apple so thats ok right? it balances out, thats the rule isnt it?

  15. I'm glad you're feeling better, Wendy.

Speaking of reading challenges, I don't think I'll be joining too many next year as I want to focus on the books I want to read from my pile instead; plus I'm a moody reader so I bound to change my choice of books.

Hope everything goes smoothly on the move!
