Weekly Mews: Catnapping in December

I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer and The Sunday Salon (TSS) hosted by Deb Nance of Readerbuzz  where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about. I am also linking It's Monday! What Are you Reading? hosted by Kathryn of Book Date where readers talk about what they have been, are and will be reading.

I hope everyone is enjoying the weekend and had a good week. Mouse performed in her school's winter band concert earlier in the week, and I took my staff out for an early holiday lunch. It was good to see them all in one place again and we enjoyed catching up. Now my family and I are in the middle of our weekend busy-ness. Since I last visited with you, the Christmas tree is up, although it is not yet decorated. Hopefully we can make time to do that soon. My husband recently got me hooked on an app called Duolingo, a language learning app. I took several years of Spanish in high school and college, but after decades of not practicing, well, I forgot most of what I learned. I have been surprised at how much of the basics I do remember though, and it's been fun to jump back in--albeit in a casual manner.

It has been awhile since I shared photos of my cats. I tried to be sneaky and take these while they were sleeping. Nina caught me in the act, but she at least stayed in position.

Still Reading

My plan this weekend is to finish reading Genevieve Cogman's The Dark Archive (Invisible Library #7).  I am closing in on the end when I will likely need to find a good hiding place so I can avoid any interruptions as I race through the last pages.

Thank you to everyone who voted in my December TBR List Poll! Mother Daughter Traitor Spy by Susan Elia MacNeal came in with 4 votes, High Spirits (A Haunted Haven Mystery #2) by Carol J. Perry received 6 votes, and Shauna Robinson's The Banned Bookshop of Maggie Banks won with 11 votes. I cannot wait to get started on it!

Thank you for voting!

My TBR List is hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Saturday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and let you vote for my next read during that month. My review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).

What I Have Been Watching

This past week we watched Wednesday on Netflix. It has gotten so much positive buzz, and I am happy to say we all really enjoyed it. The series had just the right mix of darkness, humor, and mystery. There was a great supporting cast. Enid and George were among our favorites. I hope there will be another season.

What have you watched recently?

  1. Our tree is up with ights but no ornaments yet. It's one of those Decembers. Maybe we'll get it dne this weekend! And I've been really curious about Duolingo- I keep hearing about it and thought it might be fun to dabble in French. I'm still mulling that...

I'm watching Station eleven right now... I forgot they adapted the book and now I'm giving it a try :)

    1. Greg - We didn't manage to get the lights or ornaments up this weekend. Hopefully sometime this week. Did you get yours up? Duolingo is addicting. Or it has been for me. I need to remind myself I have other things to do. I heard Station Eleven was adapted to a show. I really need to get around to reading the book. Thank you for visiting!

  6. I've had Duolingo on my phone for years. Whenever we're going to travel abroad I use it to learn some basic phrases and find it really helpful. I have Banned Bookshop on my TBR, recommended by some blogger - hope you enjoy the end of your book this weekend.

  7. Well we might get a tree this week. maybe. Now that finals are over for my daughter. I can't decide if it will be busier or quieter the next few weeks. Hopefully a few less emails anyway.

  17. I was taking care of the grandkids this weekend, and I stopped by your blog, and Annie saw the cats and was asking about them, and that led to her asking what books you were reading...Golly, it looks like we spent a lot of time visiting your blog but somehow forgot to leave a comment!

Happy you are going to read The Banned Bookshop.

  19. I use Duolingo too! It's fun but I think you need to know a bit of the grammar or it may be hard to understand what's going on.

Glad to know Banned Bookshop won, can't wait to hear what you think of it!

    1. Eustacia - Duolingo is starting to get a bit harder as I move into some of the phrasings I'm less familiar with. I'm really enjoying it though. My husband is using it to learn Japanese. I've discovered I have a bit of a competitive streak when it comes to the levels. I need to let that go. LOL Thank you for visiting!
