Sunday Post: May's TBR List Winner

My TBR List is a meme hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Sunday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month, and my review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).

Sorcerer to the Crown and The Last Namsara could not hold a candle to Shadow of the Fox, which was this month's clear winner.

Shadow of The Fox (Shadow of the Fox #1) by Julie Kagawa
One thousand years ago, the great Kami Dragon was summoned to grant a single terrible wish—and the land of Iwagoto was plunged into an age of darkness and chaos.

Now, for whoever holds the Scroll of a Thousand Prayers, a new wish will be granted. A new age is about to dawn.

Raised by monks in the isolated Silent Winds temple, Yumeko has trained all her life to hide her yokai nature. Half kitsune, half human, her skill with illusion is matched only by her penchant for mischief. Until the day her home is burned to the ground, her adoptive family is brutally slain and she is forced to flee for her life with the temple’s greatest treasure—one part of the ancient scroll.

There are many who would claim the dragon’s wish for their own. Kage Tatsumi, a mysterious samurai of the Shadow Clan, is one such hunter, under orders to retrieve the scroll…at any cost. Fate brings Kage and Yumeko together. With a promise to lead him to the scroll, an uneasy alliance is formed, offering Yumeko her best hope for survival. But he seeks what she has hidden away, and her deception could ultimately tear them both apart.

With an army of demons at her heels and the unlikeliest of allies at her side, Yumeko’s secrets are more than a matter of life or death. They are the key to the fate of the world itself.

  1. My 5 year-old granddaughter and grandson are wild for Pokéman! I had to look it up on wikipedia to see what it was all about.

    1. Nan - I know the feeling! My daughter has a book full of the different types of Pokéman. She knows about them much more than I do! I feel so lost when she and my husband start talking about them. Haha

  2. Looks like you had an awesome weekend. What did you think of Endgame? I need to see the Pokemon movie. Maybe tomorrow I'll go check it out. Also, I enjoyed the Spiderverse movie a lot more than I thought I would.

    1. Greg - I liked Endgame. It was quite emotional. I knew going in about the ending, but not about the other twist that took place earlier. That was a hard blow.

  6. I saw Detective Pikachu this week too! I loved how they rendered the different Pokemon. I've watched so much of the TV show with my son (and played Pokemon Go so much) that I was naming them too, lol.

Hope you have a lovely Mother's Day!

  9. This month is always a great month for movie debuts. I saw that the Pikachu movie was coming out with the Avengers when we went to the movies this week....I wonder which one did better at the box office.

The Shadow of the Fox looks like it is going to be brilliant. I hope you enjoy it a lot.

Have a great reading week, and Happy Mother's Day!

    1. Deb - Yes, May is a good month for movies. I used to go to the movies more often than I do now, so it's a big deal when we can see two in the theater in one month. Even one is something. Haha.

I hope you had a nice Mother's Day too!

    1. Shelleyrae - Thanks for the head's up. I actually had an e-book copy already. I don't listen to audiobooks very often. Maybe six times a year, if that. I much prefer to read books in print.

  13. Into the Spider-Verse surprised both my wife and me too. She's pretty much "over" the superhero movies, but found this one inventive and fun as I did.

    1. Bryan - I was sure I wouldn't care for Into the Spider-Verse, but like both you and your wife, liked it quite a bit. We've seen it again since the first viewing because my daughter wanted her grandmother to see it too during her visit.

  15. Enjoy your books! I am staying for a few days with my daughter, since I was just released from the hospital...and I'm hoping to move into a senior apartment nearby. I know that I've bad-mouthed my daughter's goal of settling me into one, but after my "Big Awful Event" of 5/8 and the subsequent hospitalization, I am ready. LOL.

    Enjoy your week.
