Kicking off The Thankfully Reading Weekend

It is a beautiful morning here in Southern California. While many Americans were up before dawn, ready to take advantage of today's huge sales, I was snuggled under my covers, warm and comfortable, sound asleep. My husband woke up early and distracted the animals so I could sleep in. As a result, I am well rested and nearly ready to read.

Today is the kick off of the Thankfully Reading Weekend, hosted by Jenn of Jenn's Bookshelves, Jen of Devourer of Books & Beth of Beth Fish Reads. I am going into this weekend's event stress free: none of that self-inflicted pressure, no designated stack of books (although I do have a couple of ideas), no goal on the amount I read or how much time I spend reading each day. Anjin has planned to spend the weekend gaming and continuing with his NaNoWriMo project.

Now for a little breakfast, and then I will be settling in to finish Kenneth Wishnia's The Fifth Servant.

Whatever your plans for the weekend, I hope you have a nice one. For my fellow Thankfully Reading Weekend participants (official and unofficial), enjoy your books and happy reading!

  4. I spent the morning tidying up my blog, so it's time to settle down to a good book. Now, should I work on Gone With the Wind or The Book Thief or a wonderful book of edgy poems?

  6. Beth - I think that's a good plan! :-)

Vasilly - Oh, I am! I love mornings when I wake up after the sun is already up. LOL Happy reading to you too!

Melissa (Book Lady) - We deserve to take it easy for a change, don't you think?

I was afraid that if I made a list (and I was tempted to), I'd end up disappointed that I couldn't get to them all even knowing ahead of time I couldn't possibly. I do enjoy reading everyone else's lists though. :-) Good luck to you too!

ReaderBuzz - You're off to a good start! What did you end up starting with? Maybe I should pull out my copy of The Book Thief this weekend . . .

Florinda - Thank you, Florinda! Hopefully you'll be able to sneak some in this weekend. Maybe. :-)

  7. This is an absolutely fantastic idea!

I like your approach of making it stress-free. :) I'm all for setting goals, but it is nice sometimes to just read whatever catches your eye.

  10. How great of Anjin to make sure you were able to sleep in! I'm with you in staying far away from the stores today. I've never understood the desire to shop today especially. I haven't decided on anything definite to read this weekend. I'm just going to see what my mood is.
Enjoy The Fifth Servant! Happy Reading!

  12. Kathy - Most definitely!

Amy - Wasn't that nice? I don't know whether to be more surprised he got out of bed early or that he was able to keep the animals distracted. :-) Enjoy your reading this weekend, Amy!

Emily - My Parker is such a sweet cat. I bet your orange cat is too! :-) Thank you for stopping by! Happy reading.

  14. I am not a Black Friday shopper either (I'll stay home the whole weekend). I had a stack of books to tackle today but when I woke up I decided none of them tickled my fancy so I grabbed a new one and moved on from there! As you said "no stress." Enjoy your reading.

  17. Staci - Thank you, Staci. I've had a pleasant day today. I've been reading off and on. I wanted to catch up with my Google Reader a bit as well. That kind of counts as reading too in a round about way. LOL

Janet - Sometimes you just got to go with whatever the mood strikes, don't you? Enjoy your reading!

Nise' - That is a wonderful way to start a day! I hope you are able to end it that way too. :-) I'm sending your father-in-law good thoughts and well wishes.
