Top Ten Tuesday: (Not So) One-Word Reviews for the Last Twelve Books I Read

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Jana at The Artsy Reader Girl.

The Top Ten Tuesday topic this week is One-Word Reviews for the Last Ten Books I Read. This is a tough one for me. Just one word . . . Yikes.

~ Don't mess with the Aunties. ~

Four Aunties and a Wedding (#2) by Jesse Q. Sutanto

~ Don't jump to conclusions. ~
 ~
When the Crow's Away (Evenfall Witches B&B #2) by Auralee Wallace

~ Estelle! ~

Anxious People by Fredrik Backman

~ Backstory is important. ~

The Bromance Book Club (#1) by Lyssa Kay Adams

~ Scars run deep. ~

The Final Girl Support Group by Grady Hendrix

~ Community + Hope ~

The Patron Saint of Second Chances by Christine Simon

~ Secret Identities. Best. Family. Ever.  ~

Spy x Family, vol, 1-4 by Tatsuya Endo

~ Humans suck. ~

A Burning by Megha Majumdar

~ Booklover's dream ~

The Bookwanderers (Pages & Co. #1) by Anna James

So, maybe not one word reviews for most of these, but I tried my best. These, of course, do not come close to describing all of my thoughts on the books, but it was an interesting exercise to try to come up with a short and simple statement to describe some of what I took away from them.

Have you read any of these books? What did you think?

  1. At least you are honest. Four word reviews are still very brief. I thought this was a fun activity though I had a hard time limiting myself to just one word (and sort of failed at it a few times.) One Word Reviews

    1. Anne - It was fun. I went more with description than review, I think, but it was the direction my mind kept taking me. Thank you for visiting!

  2. I struggled a bit but I had fun trying to find one-word that I was satisfied with for this week's prompt 🤣 I like what you've done though and you've definitely got me curious about some of these. This is the second post where I've seen the Spy x Family books and now I feel like I need to check them out. Great post!

  3. One word was hard!!! I like your brief sentences tho! And "Backstory is important" is perfect for Bromance :) (also Humans do suck!)

  4. I think just about all of these are wonderfully apt! Love "Estelle" for Anxious People! Clever. And humans suck might be very accurate for A Burning.

    Happy TTT!

  7. I struggled with one word! I liked your choice of words. I loved Four Aunties and a Wedding. Definitely my book of the year so far - just because it made me laugh out loud!

    Happy TTT

  8. So long since I visited blogs. Our country is upside down and we find normalcy hard to find. Books are my saving grace but I'm behind in both reading and reviewing.

    1. Mystica - I hope the situation in your country has gotten a little better. I know it must be so hard.

    1. Eustacia - Hilarious is a good word for Spy x Family.

  15. This was a pretty challenging prompt this week! I think even one sentence is tricky. It's been fun reading how everyone chooses to interpret that.

  16. This was a hard prompt, wasn't it? I loved Estelle in Anxious People. I think my word for that book would be "perfect." It's my favorite so far this year, but it was more than 10 books ago.

  18. It was hard to stick to one word reviews, I like your brief phrases...maybe next time we should do 5 word reviews ;)

    1. Cindy - Thank you! Five word reviews might be easier. LOL

  19. I am so intrigued by "Scars run deep." Great job!

  20. Fun prompt! I didn't even check to see what the TTT was for yesterday. Whoops! I loved your little descriptions. The Anxious People one cracked me up.

  21. Great list of books and I think you captured something good and important for each one.

  22. Good try Wendy, I still like your short descriptions.

  23. I haven't read any of those but you did a great job describing them in as little words as possible.

  24. One word, one phrase, one sentence—one anything is tough for me since I'm such a wordy writer! Brevity is just not my strong suit. I like your short descriptions. They still say a lot in just a few words. Well done!

    Happy TTT (on a Friday)!
