A weekly meme where readers share the first sentence of the book they are reading and say what they think. Hosted by the amazing Gillion Dumas of Rose City Reader. I am also linking to First Line Friday, hosted by Carrie of Reading is My SuperPower.
I am well aware that my name is ridiculous. It was not ridiculous before I took the job four years ago. I'm a maid at the Regency Grand Hotel, and my name is Molly. Molly Maid. [opening of The Maid]
A weekly meme in which readers share a random sentence or two from page 56 or 56% of the book they are reading. Hosted by the wonderful Freda of Freda's Voice.
My head is spinning, the floor is tilting under my feet. Tiny teapot spin before my eyes. "Would anyone like a cup of . . . " But I can't finish the question because my vision dims. The last thing I remember is my knees turning to marmalade and all the world fading to black. [excerpt from 56% of The Maid]
I currently am reading The Maid by Nita Prose, which seems to be an early favorite among many bloggers I follow. As described on Goodreads:
A charmingly eccentric hotel maid discovers a guest murdered in his bed. Solving the mystery will turn her once orderly world upside down in this utterly original debut. From the opening lines of The Maid, I was hooked and wanted to read more about Molly and just what kind of trouble she would find herself in. This has been a hard book to put down! The second excerpt I shared comes right in the middle of--well, a spoiler--which is why I chose it instead of what came before and directly after. I love the description of Molly's state of mind and what is happening in that moment. Shock. Confusion.
Does The Maid sound like something you would enjoy? Have you read it?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be sure and tell me what you are reading and are up to!
Connect Five Friday is a weekly meme where readers share a list of five books,
read or unread, or bookish things, that share a common theme.
Hosted by the Kathryn of of Book Date.
As I settled in to do a little blog writing and visiting today, I realized I left my blanket in the other room. I am always cold these days and today is no different. I have plenty of blankets of one kind or another, including a couple covered in cats, but none of the bookish-themed variety. Today I thought I would share some of the literary themed blankets I have on my Etsy wish list (the photos are linked to the Etsy shops where I found the blankets):

Okay, so maybe I couldn't get away from the cat theme still (although isn't that dragon one cute?). Do you have a literary themed blanket or maybe pillow (maybe I should get one of those!)?
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Be sure and tell me what you are reading and are up to!

I've been hearing about this book recently, too. As a lover of mysteries, I think it would be right up my ally. And that quote at 56% is certainly intriguing.ReplyDelete
Mark - I finished it last night and really enjoyed it. I hope you will too if you pick it up. Thank you for visiting!Delete
I'm #30 on the hold list for The Maid at the library! Can't wait to put a bookmark in that novel!ReplyDelete
Harvee - I hope you love it when you read it! I thought it was really good. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I've heard nothing but wonderful things about The Maid. I'm feeling a little left out at the moment because I don't have a copy, lol. And those blankets are adorable. Who knew book themed blankets were a thing?ReplyDelete
Tammy - I hope you do get a chance to read it! I love those blankets. :-) Thank you for visiting!Delete
The Maid sounds like a great read, and I love your taste in blankets. I'm currently working on quilting a "bookshelf" mini quilt to go over my living room bookshelf, and I keep thinking that I need to make a larger version for snuggling under while I read.ReplyDelete
Cathy - I hope you will share a photo of your mini quilt when you finish it. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I have been seeing this book everywhere! It is now on my TBR! Here's mine: “THE GOOD SON”ReplyDelete
Laurel-Rain - It does seem to be making the blog rounds a lot these days. I hope you get a chance to read it! Thank you for visiting!Delete

Freda - I hope you love it when you read it! Have a great weekend too.Delete

Catherine - They would be perfect reading blankets. :-) Thank you for visiting!Delete
Hope you enjoy The Maid - I thought it was very good. I don't have any literary themed blankets etc. I did have some mugs at one time though.ReplyDelete
Diane - I finished it last night and really liked it. I think I have a couple literary themed mugs too that people got me as gifts over the years. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I am glad you enjoyed this one! It does sound good. Is it a clean read (no language/explicit scenes), or is there some language? I do have literary pillows, mugs, and recently got a pair of socks and a hoodie. I would love to have a literary blanket too! Have a great weekend!ReplyDelete
Cindy - No explicit scenes and no violence on the page. As for language, there are maybe two to three instances in which a character uses a curse word (the main character does not approve for what it's worth). It's minimal but not nonexistent. I hope that helps.Delete
A literary themed hoodie! I need one of those. :-) And a pillow. LOL I hope you have a great weekend too!
Those are cute blankets. Anytime I leave a blanket lying around my dog lays on it.ReplyDelete
Mary - That would be my cats too. LOL Thank you for visiting!Delete
Fun blankets! I think good throw blankets can make a room and reading experience.ReplyDelete
Helen - The softer the blanket the better. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I haven't heard about this book before but it sounds good. I love those blankets! They are wonderful. Have a great weekend!ReplyDelete
Yvonne - Aren't they cute? I hope you have a great weekend too!Delete
I have The Maid on my tbr. I love these blankets!ReplyDelete
Wendy - I hope you enjoy The Maid when you read it! Thank you for visiting!Delete
Oh my Wendy those blankets are so adorable and yes to the dragon one, although all the cat inclusions are darnright cute as well.ReplyDelete
Kathryn - I wish I could get them all. Although, I don't know what I would do with them all. LOL Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I've heard a lot of great things about this! Thanks for visiting my blog earlier.ReplyDelete
Lauren - I really enjoyed it! Thank you for visiting!Delete
I’m currently reading Mulberry Hollow by Denise Hunter. I am really enjoying it! I’m just starting chapter 7, so I’ll share from there.
“It was amazing how much could change over a weekend.”
Truer words! LOL!
Hope you have a wonderful weekend filled with relaxing reading time.
Nicole - Thank you for sharing! Yes, change can come so quickly, I agree.Delete
I hope you have a great weekend too. Thank you for stopping by!
I haven't heard of this one before today but it does look like a good and unusual mystery. How could it not be, with the opener about her unusual name?ReplyDelete
Visiting from FLF#8
Kym - I really enjoyed it. :-) Thank you for visiting!Delete
I have The Maid and am looking forward to getting to it. You have given me another nudge. I do not have a book blanket and I do love that dragon one for sure. I am not a cat fan, I don't dislike them, just never lived with one, but I wonder if they have books and dogs. 🤷♀️ReplyDelete
Carla - I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! I was a dog person for years and then adopted my first cat early in my marriage (my husband is a cat person). Now I think of myself as a dog and cat person. I am sure they have book and dog themed blankets out there too. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I do like that dragon one...mostly because dragons and books just seem to go together. Happy reading The Maid! It's one I want to read, too. :)ReplyDelete
Lark - I agree with you about books and dragons seeming to go together. I hope you do get a chance to read The Maid. It was really good. Thank you for visiting!Delete
The Maid sounds really good. That opener made me chuckle. And those blankets are awesome. I especially love the dragon one. Hope you have a wonderful weekend! :)ReplyDelete
Ashley - That's my favorite too. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
Cute cats-n-books visuals. I have seen this book around, too. I just watched a Netflix series called Maid but it isn't the same thing. Got confused for a sec. My Friday Quotes are hereReplyDelete
Anne - I have heard of the Netflix Maid, although I haven't seen it. It's very different from this particular book. Thank you for visiting!Delete
I've not heard of The Maid before but it sounds interesting and I like the fact that a murder is involved!ReplyDelete
Eustacia - I enjoyed it very much and hope you do get a chance to read it. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I am looking forward to The Maid! I think I'm going to read it after my next book or so... moving it up :)ReplyDelete
Greg - I hope you like it as much as I did! Thank you for visiting!Delete
I'm definitely adding The Maid on my wishlist. And those blankets are so pretty!ReplyDelete
Melody - I hope you like it if you read it! Thank you for stopping by!Delete
Those are cool blankets! This weekend, I'm reading Their Unbreakable Bond by Deb Kastner. The first line is: It was the Be Back Shortly sign on the door of the gift shop, with an arrow pointing toward the barn, that had sent Stone Keller in this direction.ReplyDelete
On my First Line Friday blog post, I featured To Treasure an Heiress by Rosenanna M. White: https://daniellegrandinetti.com/2022/01/21/to-treasure-an-heiress/
I hope you enjoyed Their Unbreakable Bond. Thank you for sharing!Delete
The Maid is getting so much buzz right now. I want to read it soon.ReplyDelete
Kami - I hope you like it if you read it! Thank you for visiting!Delete
I read The Maid a couple of weeks ago and thought it was delightful! I love a quirky heroine.ReplyDelete
Suzanne - I do too. Molly was such a great character. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I am going to have to get my hands on a copy of The Maid. It sounds so good. I will take one of each of these blankets. They are all so cute :)ReplyDelete
Carole - I hope you do get a chance to read The Maid. It's worth it! I love these blankets. :-) Thank you for visiting!Delete
My first line is from Chapter 1 of To Treasure an Heiress by Roseanna White:ReplyDelete
11 July. Samson, Isles of Scilly
“Beth Tremayne crept silently through the creaking doorway of the abandoned cottage as the first stokes of dawn painted the sky over the islands.”
Paula - What a great first line! Thank you for sharing!Delete
I do not have any literary blankets or pillows but clearly I need to fix that! I do have a coffee mug that is covered in vintage Agatha Christie covers that makes me happy every time I used it but that's about it. The Maid is on my TBR.ReplyDelete
Katherine - I love the idea of them. :-) Your Agatha Christie themed mug sounds cool! Thank you for visiting!Delete
