I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer and The Sunday Salon (TSS) hosted by Deb Nance of Readerbuzz where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about. I am also linking It's Monday! What Are you Reading? hosted by Kathryn of Book Date where readers talk about what they have been, are and will be reading.
In reading . . .
I slipped A Spindle Splintered (Fractured Fables #1) by Alix E. Harrow in early in the week and just finished reading Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex, both of which I enjoyed.
I wish I could tell you I made a lot of progress in Nancy Marie Brown's The Real Valkyrie: The Hidden History of Viking Warrior Women, but the truth is I barely picked it up this past week. I was more in the mood for escape and something light. To be honest, I find myself going back and forth about whether I will finish this one.
I am looking forward to reading this month's TBR List winner (thank you to all who voted!). Three other of my books also vying for my attention right now are Mango, Mambo, and Murder (A Caribbean Kitchen Mystery #1) by Raquel V. Reyes, The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows #6), and The Keeper of Night (#1) by Kylie Lee Baker. I am having a hard time deciding which direction to go. They all sound good!
What I Have Been Watching
My husband and I decided to check out The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. We have only seen the first three episodes but are enjoying it so far. There's so much talent in the show! We watched the season finale of Ted Lasso. I talked my family into watching the first couple episodes of The Wonder Years reboot. Reboots do not always work, but I highly recommend this one.
Off the Blog
I wish I had something exciting to share, but the week was fairly normal. The new supervisor was out all week and I found myself working quite a bit of overtime as a result. There was also the usual shuttling of Mouse to her various extracurricular activities. My husband, daughter and I had a little music party last night, joining our Spotify lists and taking turns playing songs. It made for a fun family night--even if we stayed up much later than we should have.
Catching the morning breeze
Tell me what you have been up to! What are you reading, listening to and watching? How was your week?
Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Saturday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month. My review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).
This week's poll was very close between two of the contenders. The cozy mystery In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace came in third place with three votes. C.J. Cooke's The Lighthouse Witches, with its historical Gothic themes, came in second with eight votes. The leaves Cackle by Rachel Harrison, which won this month's poll with 9 votes! I hear the spiders will give me nightmares. I can't wait to see for myself!
Thank you for voting! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Happy Reading!

I love those beautiful kitties and a family music party sounds fun.ReplyDelete
Jinjer - Thank you! I love my kitties. :-)Delete
Your music party sounds fun! :) And love the cat pics!ReplyDelete
I really need to read some Harrow, I've been wanting to try her stuff for awhile.
Hope you have a wonderful week ahead :)
Greg - It was a fun way to pass the time together. :-) I hope you do get a chance to try Harrow at some point. I highly recommend The Ten Thousand Doors of January. Thank you for visiting!Delete
Mango Mambo and Murder looks like a comfy cozy. Enjoy.ReplyDelete
vvb - I think so too. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
Lovely to see your beautiful fur babies and a Spotify music party sounds great fun to me! My week has been a quiet but busy one at work, where I have continued to read the weighty The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. And thank you, take care and happy reading this coming week. 🙂ReplyDelete
Jessica - It was a fun way to end the week. :-) I hope you are enjoying The Count of Monte Cristo. Thank you for visiting!Delete
Despite the lockdown ending, we find very few people out and about other than necessary errands. Here not everyone is online so banks, supermarkets are still patronized. I've moved practically everything I do online but the day never seems enough to do all I want to do.ReplyDelete
I've been watching a lot of stuff on you tube - lifestyle vlogs from decluttering to minimalistic living, to living in the wilds and off grid. I find that fascinating! Reading has never been better either.
I still want to travel (first to see the children and grands). My youngest grandchild is just two, she doesnt know who these strangers are at all. Very sad over this. And the days go by.
Mystica - I hope you will be able to travel again in near future. I know it must be hard not being able to visit your family. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I'm seeing The Ex Hex featured heavily on blogs and it looks a really great read based on what I've read so far.ReplyDelete
You have two beautiful cats. We've semi-adopted one the neighbours left behind. He splits his time between our house and another one!
Louise - The Ex Hex was a fun read. I recommend it! Thank you--we love our cats very much. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I loved Erin Stirling's thrillers that she writes under 'Rachel Hawkins', but I think I'd love to give 'The Ex Hex' a try as well! Although I love reading non-fiction I do sometimes also run into a wall with it, where I want something less heavy and attention-intensive! Also, your kittykats are so adorable! I hope you have a lovely week :)ReplyDelete
Juli @ A Universe in Words
Juli - I've read of Rachel Hawkins thrillers and remember enjoying it. The Ex Hex was very good. Thank you for visiting!Delete
A Spindle Splintered sounds right up my alley. A family music party sounds fun, I might have to try it. Hope you have a great week.ReplyDelete
SJ - A Spindle Splintered was a quick read and I liked it. I hope you had a great week too! Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I also struggled this week between what I *should be* reading and what I wanted to be reading. I was also in the mood for something lighter. Not sure why, but it is what it is. :)ReplyDelete
Love the kitty pics! I should put some up of my little wildcat, Samantha.
Have a great week!
Lori - It's best to go with our reading moods than force a book, isn't it? I would love to see Samantha. :-) Thank you for visiting!Delete
Doesn't Ex Hex sound like a perfect book for October? I can see where you might have trouble getting back to The Real Valkyrie after reading some fun and compelling like that one.ReplyDelete
I'm very interested in seeing Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. Unfortunately we do not have Apple+ for Lasso, and I'm not going to purchase another streaming service just to watch it. Surely it will arrive on other services...sooner or later.
Hurray for Cackle. Let's see what you think about it.
Deb - It was a great book for the season. :-) I hope someday you will get a chance to see Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. We only have Apple+ because my daughter got an iPod as a gift and it came with a free year of the streaming service.Delete
Thank you for stopping by!
Wish I weren't allergic to cats. They make the perfect pets.ReplyDelete
Harvee - Luckily my allergy to cats isn't debilitating. Allergy medicine seems to stave off the worst of mine. Thank you for visiting!Delete
The Ex Hex is popping up everywhere!ReplyDelete
A music party can only be fun and Elza says hi to your lovely kitties. Have a good week ahead!
Mareli (Elza) - Thank you!Delete
My wife and I are making our way slowly through Season 1 of Ted Lasso. So, so good and so emotional every episode, we only can take so much. My wife has been watching The Morning Show too. It looks a bit dark for me, but she's enjoying it.ReplyDelete
Bryan - My husband and I love Ted Lasso. We finished the first season of The Morning Show and really enjoyed it. Thank you for stopping by!Delete

We just watched the season 2 finale of Ted Lasso last night and really enjoyed both seasons. I am also caught up on The Morning Show, which I also think is very good.
Helen - I am looking forward to watching the second season of The Morning Show now that my husband and I have seen the first. Thank you for visiting!Delete
My kids are learning about Vikings and my interest has peaked, so I may have to check out The Real Valkyrie. It must have been a good week for Spotify because my kids and I jammed to my 90's playlist while cleaning the house this weekend.ReplyDelete
my post: https://blessedmommysc.blogspot.com/2021/10/my-daughters-11th-birthday-sunday-post.html
Kelly Lyn - The Real Valkyrie is an interesting read. If you decide to read it, I hope you like it. Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I've only seen the first episode of the new THE WONDER YEARS, but I really enjoyed it. We've also been watching TED LASSO and loving it. In fact, the hubs and I decided to start it all over and watch from the beginning now that we know how S2 ends.ReplyDelete
Melinda - Isn't The Wonder Years good? We are enjoying the reboot. I want to rewatch Ted Lasso now that we've read the end. Thank you for visiting!Delete
I always found the Hollows series to be entertaining.ReplyDelete

Normal weeks are very nice and I love the cat pictures. I can't wait to see what you think of Cackle. It's on my TBR and sounds wonderful. Mango Mambo and Murder sounds like a book for me. Adding that one to my TBR as well. Have a great week!ReplyDelete

Your music party sounds like a lot of fun. Nothing wrong with mood reading, Wendy. A quiet week, family wise is always good for change. I hope you enjoy Cackle. I am going to be listening to The Lighthouse Witches this week. I had a nice relaxing week with great weather getting me in the pool every day. We closed it on the weekend, so summer is officially over for me now. Have an awesome week.ReplyDelete

I love the cover of Crackle, pretty sure that was my vote. I hope you enjoy it and the spiders! I hadn't seen There was a Wonder Years reboot - where are you watching it? I think I would also enjoy the morning show, but I think it's only on Apple TV which I don't have.ReplyDelete
Your family music/dance night sounds wonderful. The simple pleasures are often the best! Have a great week!
Berls - I like the cover of Cackle too. :-) I think Wonder Years is on ABC. My family is watching it through Hulu since we don't get the regular network channels.Delete
Thank you for visiting!
Looks like a bunch of good books.ReplyDelete
Mary - Thanks!Delete
Tempted by so many of your books lately, many of them perfect given the time of year.ReplyDelete
Loving the photos of your cats. I've been boring everyone on FB and Instagram with photos of our time share pooch, Tilly. I really need to share them on my blog. 🤣
Felicity - Your timeshare pooch is adorable. :-) Thank you for stopping by!Delete
I missed voting but sounds like you've got a great book ahead of you. I hope it's been good so far. And, I forgot to mention in my previous comment, are you guys still watching Grimm? I really loved that series for the first few seasons. Then it just went really crazy. My favorite character was Rosalee too! Hope work has calmed down a bit for you!ReplyDelete
Iliana - Yes, I'm still watching Grimm. I am on the final season. I think I like the earlier seasons better too. Thank you for visiting!Delete
We have those music parties at our house sometimes too. It's great fun!ReplyDelete
