Weekly Mews: An Ordinary Week But With Good Books

I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer and The Sunday Salon (TSS) hosted by Deb Nance of Readerbuzz  where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about. I am also linking It's Monday! What Are you Reading? hosted by Kathryn of Book Date where readers talk about what they have been, are and will be reading.

In reading . . .
Then

I slipped A Spindle Splintered (Fractured Fables #1) by Alix E. Harrow in early in the week and just finished reading Erin Sterling's The Ex Hex, both of which I enjoyed.

Now

I wish I could tell you I made a lot of progress in Nancy Marie Brown's The Real Valkyrie: The Hidden History of Viking Warrior Women, but the truth is I barely picked it up this past week. I was more in the mood for escape and something light. To be honest, I find myself going back and forth about whether I will finish this one.

Next

I am looking forward to reading this month's TBR List winner (thank you to all who voted!).  Three other of my books also vying for my attention right now are Mango, Mambo, and Murder (A Caribbean Kitchen Mystery #1) by Raquel V. Reyes, The Outlaw Demon Wails (The Hollows #6), and The Keeper of Night (#1) by Kylie Lee Baker. I am having a hard time deciding which direction to go. They all sound good!

What I Have Been Watching

My husband and I decided to check out The Morning Show starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. We have only seen the first three episodes but are enjoying it so far. There's so much talent in the show! We watched the season finale of Ted Lasso.  I talked my family into watching the first couple episodes of The Wonder Years reboot. Reboots do not always work, but I highly recommend this one.

Off the Blog

I wish I had something exciting to share, but the week was fairly normal. The new supervisor was out all week and I found myself working quite a bit of overtime as a result. There was also the usual shuttling of Mouse to her various extracurricular activities. My husband, daughter and I had a little music party last night, joining our Spotify lists and taking turns playing songs. It made for a fun family night--even if we stayed up much later than we should have.

Sleepyhead

Catching the morning breeze

Tell me what you have been up to! What are you reading, listening to and watching? How was your week?

Thank you for helping me decide what book from my TBR collection I should read next:

My TBR List is hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Saturday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and take a poll as to which you think I should read. I will read the winner that month. My review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).

This week's poll was very close between two of the contenders. The cozy mystery In the Company of Witches by Auralee Wallace came in third place with three votes. C.J. Cooke's The Lighthouse Witches, with its historical Gothic themes, came in second with eight votes. The leaves Cackle by Rachel Harrison, which won this month's poll with 9 votes! I hear the spiders will give me nightmares. I can't wait to see for myself!

Thank you for voting! I hope you all have a wonderful week! Happy Reading!

  4. Lovely to see your beautiful fur babies and a Spotify music party sounds great fun to me! My week has been a quiet but busy one at work, where I have continued to read the weighty The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. And thank you, take care and happy reading this coming week. 🙂

  5. Despite the lockdown ending, we find very few people out and about other than necessary errands. Here not everyone is online so banks, supermarkets are still patronized. I've moved practically everything I do online but the day never seems enough to do all I want to do.
I've been watching a lot of stuff on you tube - lifestyle vlogs from decluttering to minimalistic living, to living in the wilds and off grid. I find that fascinating! Reading has never been better either.
I still want to travel (first to see the children and grands). My youngest grandchild is just two, she doesnt know who these strangers are at all. Very sad over this. And the days go by.

You have two beautiful cats. We've semi-adopted one the neighbours left behind. He splits his time between our house and another one!

  7. I loved Erin Stirling's thrillers that she writes under 'Rachel Hawkins', but I think I'd love to give 'The Ex Hex' a try as well! Although I love reading non-fiction I do sometimes also run into a wall with it, where I want something less heavy and attention-intensive! Also, your kittykats are so adorable! I hope you have a lovely week :)

  9. I also struggled this week between what I *should be* reading and what I wanted to be reading. I was also in the mood for something lighter. Not sure why, but it is what it is. :)

Love the kitty pics! I should put some up of my little wildcat, Samantha.

    Have a great week!

  10. Doesn't Ex Hex sound like a perfect book for October? I can see where you might have trouble getting back to The Real Valkyrie after reading some fun and compelling like that one.

I'm very interested in seeing Ted Lasso and The Morning Show. Unfortunately we do not have Apple+ for Lasso, and I'm not going to purchase another streaming service just to watch it. Surely it will arrive on other services...sooner or later.

Hurray for Cackle. Let's see what you think about it.
