Mouse's Corner: Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss

Wacky Wednesday by Dr. Seuss writing as Theo LeSieg and illustrated by George Booth (Random House, 1974; 48 pgs) is basically about a young girl who wakes up one morning to find that things around her are not quite right.  A door has two knobs, there is a shoe on the wall, and a candy cane acts as a table leg, just to name a few of the crazy things she sees.  No one else around her seems to notice.

My daughter loves her books, and one of her favorite stories right now is Wacky Wednesday. It's one of my favorite books too.  The word repetition and rhymes are fun for a young child, not to mention the enjoyment my daughter gets from pointing out what is wrong in each picture.

Mouse has taken the book one step further and likes to create her own wacky scenes around the house. Mouse was quite proud of her work in the tub the other night:

  1. I love it when books get kids to do something inspired. Sounds like Mouse had a lot of fun with the book!

  2. I haven't seen this one and really we haven't read much Dr. Seuss. The Tornado would LOVE this one. He loves absurd humor so I'll have to look for this next time I'm at the library. How cute that she is making her own scenes. So creative!

    1. Katherine - We own so many Dr. Seuss books--and the spin offs. They've always been very popular in our family (extended family too).

I love it when Mouse gets into her books she wants to apply them to her own world. :-) Such fun!

    1. Alice - I post a Mouse's Corner now and then. :-) My goal would be to post one every other Sunday, but it hasn't worked out that way yet.

    1. Melody - She has such fun creating her own wacky scenes. LOL Sometimes it's only wacky in her own head, but it's cute to see what she comes up with. :-)

  7. What a great way to take the context of the book and apply it to the real world. That clever little Mouse! I haven't read this one but we're fan of Seuss so I'll have to see if Half Price Books has a copy. Lately Scott and Elle have been on a Cat in the Hat run but I'm partial to Fox in Sox. Ha!j

ps--I'm so behind in my blog reading for all the travel but I did scroll down to see your final thoughts on Blind Assassin. I'm thrilled that you ended up enjoying it! It was a bit of work, especially the sci-fi moments, but I was so pleased with how it came together.

    1. Trish - I thought it was clever too. :-) She amazes me in so many ways. You know, I don't think we have a copy of Fox in Sox. I should look for it the next time we are at the library. I'm sure she'd like it.

"A bit of work" is a good way to describe reading Blind Assassin. It was worth it though, and I am glad I finally read it.

  8. How nice that the book inspired Mouse! That's awesome. Got to love Dr. Seuss :) I'd read my kids his books all the time, Green Eggs and Ham and Hop on Pop were favs.

  9. I love Seuss but I was not a fan of Seuss when I was reading the books TO my kids. I got really tired of the repetition and wanted a little more story and less of the same words over and over again. But when they started to read on their own, they remained a fave with them and I didn't mind them so much then.

    1. Ti - I can see that. :-) I don't mind as long as we're not reading the book ten times in a row. When that happens, I start to dislike the books too.
