Booking Through Thursday: Romance

This week's topic for Booking Through Thursday is romance.

And so, in honor of Valentine's Day . . .

1. Love stories? Yes or No? I do enjoy a love story now and then. The book I am reading now has a little romance in it--although it is more like the fatal attraction kind.

2. If yes, "romances" as a genre? Or just, well, stories that have love stories? (Nobody's going to call "Pride & Prejudice" a "romance," right?) If a novel is classified as a strict romance, I am less likely to pick it up and read it, but occasionally one finds its way into my personal library and on my reading list that I enjoy. Generally, however, I prefer that the romance to be mixed in with another genre--more of a side story than the main focus.

  1. I'm a sucker for romance, though I generally like to have a little something else along with it: mystery, fantasy, etc. But, if a book doesn't have a love story, I probably won't read it.

    Have a great day!

  2. I am with you...I generally don't pick up romances but who am I to turn away from a little love if it is thrown in somewhere? Happy reading!

  3. I'm with you too. I very rarely read a "romance" novel. Did the Danielle Steele phase, but it's over. I'd rather have a mystery or historical fiction with romance on the side.

  4. Much like me! The newer love stories seem thinner than the old great ones like Wuthering Heights. Have a wonderful week!

  6. I agree. I also like "romances" that aren't in the romance genre. I'm not a big buring loins fan.

  7. I don't mind reading books from the romance genre, though they aren't what I read all the time...nothing wrong with reading them from time to time.

  10. There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a good romance novel now and then! :-) Or even all the time, if that's your prefence. I just love the idea that there are so many different types of books out there to satisfy whatever taste in books we each may have. I'm one of those people who may prefer chocolate, but I hold no grudge or think less of someone who prefers vanilla.

Marianne - Thanks for stopping in! My mom is much the same way about her reading--she must have a love story, even if just a little one. :-)

Kim - Yes! That's the direction I tend to lean in. :-)

Lynne - I went through a romance phase myself and got burnt out. Many of the books I was reading seemed to be too much the same. I think that's part of the reason I like such a variety nowadays.

Meeyauw - Wuthering Heights was a good one. Although, I liked Jane Eyre more. :-)

Heather - Thanks! I hope you had a nice one too. I had to work late, but it turned out alright.

Aka-Nik - LOL I know what you mean!

Shelley - I agree; there's nothing wrong with reading a romance novel. A person should read what he or she enjoys reading! :-)

Melody - Thank you! I have a soft spot for kittens. And dogs. :-)

  11. Wuthering Heights was NOT a romance! Those people were HORRID. Jane Eyre is more my romance style (and since I've just finished reading it, I can say that with authority.) I'm not a romance fan, but it has it's place, even in my embittered library.

Those kittens in the hammock are adorable!

  12. I do like a romance now & again. Though I tend to like the older ones, which have a romantic story but say things like "It was a really beautifully appointed room"... And when I read purely in the romance genre, I usually stick to Regency era ones.

  13. I don't like romance to be the main storyline, but I like it somewhere in the novel.
