Weekly Mews: Saying Goodbye to Friends & More Witchy Reading

I am linking up to the Sunday Post hosted by Kim of Caffeinated Book Reviewer and The Sunday Salon (TSS) hosted by Deb Nance of Readerbuzz  where participants recap our week, talk about what we are reading, share any new books that have come our way, and whatever else we want to talk about. I am also linking It's Monday! What Are you Reading? hosted by Kathryn of Book Date where readers talk about what they have been, are and will be reading.

The house is so quiet right now. I was the first up this morning and I seem to be the last to head to bed. One cat is stretched out on the floor, belly up, while the other is staring at me, probably trying to send me a telepathic message that I should go to bed too--or more likely to let me know she wants a treat.

It was a decent week. There were routine dentist visits for my daughter and me. Work as usual. School for Mouse. And all the other usual trimmings. We ended the week with a small get together with friends, both to celebrate a birthday and say goodbye. One of our sets of friends is moving across the country. So, there was a mix of sadness in with the joy. It was a beautiful day for being in and around the pool. Although, we were surprised when the clouds rolled in and dropped a few raindrops before rolling away again about five minutes later.

Tomorrow I am hoping I can get some much needed housework done--oh, the joy! I have been limited in what I can do because of my knee. We'll see how it goes. The physical therapy is helping, but there's still some pain and discomfort that comes and goes. I also hope to get in some much overdue blog hopping.

Time for some pool time fun at our friends' house

I always share photos of my cats,
but this time I decided to share photos of my friends' dogs.

This old girl decided to lay on my foot

Read Recently

This past week I finished Witch and Famous (Witch Way Librarian #3) by Angela M. Sanders. I am really enjoying the series.

Reading Now

I currently am reading The Witches of Moonshyne Manor by Bianca Marias. I am not too far in but already loving it.

Up Next

Next up I will be diving into this month's TBR List winner.

A Haunted History of Invisible Women: True Stories of America's Ghosts and Mere Mortals tied for second place with four votes each while Celestine Martin's Witchful Thinking won with six votes. It looks like my witch-themed reading roll will continue! And this time it will include a merman. I can't wait to dive into Witchful Thinking. Thank you to everyone who voted!

My TBR List is hosted by the awesome Michelle at Because Reading. It’s a fun way to choose a book from your TBR pile to read. The 1st Saturday of every month, I will list 3 books I am considering reading and let you vote for my next read during that month. My review will follow (unfortunately, not likely in the same month, but eventually--that's all I can promise).

I hope you have a great week and month of October! Let me know what you have been reading and watching!

  1. I love the visiting dog on your foot! I wish I had taken more photos of our dog years ago, but it was before digital so we hardly took pics back then.

  2. Cat's are masters at sending you telepathic messages ;-) And it's too cold here now to enjoy some pool time honestly.

  3. All your witch-themed reading seems like great fun. I'm a scaredy-cat so I miss out on a lot of October reading that's too spooky, but I am quite sure I'd enjoy some fun witch books.

It's rough having friends move away, so it's nice to get together and make memories before they go. You are fortunate to be able to continue to enjoy your pool.

    1. Deb - Most of my witch-themed reading doesn't fall into the spooky category--at least not lately. Funny and light is about all I can handle right now.

We're sad to see our friends go, but this is a good opportunity for them. They have family where they are going too, which will make the move easier for them, I think. Hopefully someday we will be able to visit them. They are already planning to return this summer for a visit. And yes, lots of good memories to hold onto.

      Thank you for visiting!

  4. It is sad when people move on and away. The pool pictures looked fun. The books looked good. I want to read Witchful Thinking one day 😂
    Have a good week ahead!

    1. Emily - The girls had a fun time playing in the pool--probably for the last time this year. I am starting Witchful Thinking today. I'm really looking forward to reading it! Thank you for stopping by!

    1. Cindy - I think this year is the most we've had access to a pool since forever. I've always wanted one of my own, but it's not in the cards. Thank you for visiting!

  6. It's so hard when friends move away. I'm a former military spouse, so I had to get used to that. With social media these days, at least it's easy to keep in touch. Here's my SP: https://bonniereadsandwrites.com/2022/10/08/sundaypost-catching-up/

  9. I've seen Moonshyne Manor show up here and there - looks like I should consider adding it to my TBR. Lots of spooky reads showing up in this week's posts. Hope you have a terrific week and find time to curl up with a good book.

  12. I hope your knee continues to improve. I still do my PT exercises twice daily after the problem I had last year (back/hips). I rarely have an issue but it bothers me since I NEVER had issues before. The pool looks great. Our neighborhood pool closed for the season in September.

    1. Anne - Thank you. This knee thing came out of the blue--but I suppose age can account for some of that. I plan to continue with the PT exercises after I don't have to either. It can't hurt! Thank you for stopping by!

Sorry to hear that your still experiencing some pain and discomfort. I hope that some R&R combined with physiotherapy will have you feeling more comfortable real soon ..,. and in the meantime, there's this month's read to look forward to.

  17. Good idea to read some witchy kinds of reads. I have yet to get my pumpkins! October is going by quickly. It's nice to see a pool at this time of year. Enjoy your week.

    1. Susan - Did you end up getting a pumpkin? We never did carve or decorate ours, but I kind of like just having them whole to enjoy. Living in Southern California makes for longer pool season. :-) Thank you for stopping by!
