Dana over at
So many books, so little time is hosting the
2008 Chunkster Challenge, which while I could and probably should pass it up, will not. Why you ask? I want to count
War and Peace as a challenge book. It feels like a challenge book, and now it will be. I have plenty of other books that fall under Dana's definition of a chunkster slated for other challenges this year as well and so this will do just nicely. I will not be adding any new books to my planned reading schedule, therefore leaving plenty of room for
just4thehelluvit reading as well.
- To qualify, the book must be 450 pages regular type or 750 pages large text.
 - You must read at least 4 chunksters. Ideal for reading one per quarter, but not mandatory. You could read all four in one month if you feel up to it.
 - The Challenge will run Jan 7th, 2008 - Dec 20th, 2008, but any chunkster started after Jan 1 qualifies. And thank goodness because I really want to count War and Peace.
 - Prizes will be offered once a quarter. Think small and fun, not big and chunky.
 - Share your reviews.

And one other thing, you do not need to list your books ahead of time, a characteristic that I much admire in a challenge even when I know exactly what I will be reading.

Another challenge! How exciting! But I have to let this pass since I have several on hand... ;(
ReplyDeleteHappy reading, Wendy! :)
Oooh, I'm reading The Crimson Petal and the White (over 800 pages), and just bought Crime and Punishment, plus Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell is my bookgroup pick this month. That's 3 sorted. Should I do the challenge....
ReplyDeleteI'm on the fence about participating in this one. I had a really good time with it last year. Maybe after I assess my stacks when I get home.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
You could also count War and Peace toward the Russian Lit challenge. . .
ReplyDeleteHappy reading and happy 2008.
This sounds like fun! I'll be home on the 4th so I can go through my books and decide which ones I'm going to do.
ReplyDeleteTake a stab at War and Peace! I will be rooting for you!
ReplyDeleteI'm so tempted to join this challenge, but I'm SO BAD at reading chunksters! Eeek!
ReplyDeleteMelody - I'm not really adding new books to what I already plan on reading, so joining this challenge is almost like cheating. :-)
ReplyDeleteLazy Cow - You have some great reading ahead of you! I enjoyed all three of those books you plan to read. I look forward to reading your thoughts on them.
Nikki - I hope you will be able to join in, but I understand if you decide not to.
SFP - Maybe if War and Peace was the only book I had to read for it. Haha I'm trying to stick only to books I have on my TBR shelves right now, and I don't have enough Russian literature to qualify for the Russian Literature Challenge, unfortunately.
Jen - I think it will be fun. I do like big books--it's just a matter of motivating myself to read them sometimes. Haha
Jaimie - Thanks! I can use all the support I can get. :-)
Andi - It's only one a quarter . . . ;-)
I thought I would give this challenge a go this year as I have a few bigger books to read. Will be fun to see what you read for it too.
ReplyDeleteRhinoa - I keep thinking of big books I want to read for this challenge and then I have to remind myself I need to remember I have other books to read as well. Haha
