Taking a Break

My dear Readers, Sunday is upon us again.  And it's a new month!  I wish I could say the month got off to a great start.  I was really really really looking forward to the start of June.  It means that horrible May is behind me.  June actually did start out on the good side, only yesterday it took a dive when we landed in urgent care.  Things happen.  Mouse is fine, if a little bruised.  She entertained the hospital staff and patients with her smile and antics.  That girl never sits still, I tell you!  She really is fine--only a minor injury from an accident that had the potential to be so much worse.  I think my husband and I were more shaken by the experience than she was.  We rushed out the door so fast, I put her shoes on the wrong feet!

On the book front, I am still reading the same books I was reading when I posted my last Sunday Salon post.  Although I sneaked in An Unmarked Grave by Charles Todd last week just because I could.  I also started reading Stephen King's The Stand.  Oh, and I am now reading Lisa Lutz's The Spellman Files, which was the only book I had handy Friday afternoon when I was desperate for a book and unable to get my hands on one of the ones I was already reading.  It's quite funny so far.

I would like to continue my series on Mouse's favorite books, but I haven't had a chance to write up anymore posts.  With my husband's birthday this week and my brother and his wife's upcoming visit, they likely won't get written any time soon.

I'm expecting a rather lazy summer blog wise. I had planned to post a couple of short story reviews over the next three weeks, but I think I'll hold off.  With everything going on, a break is in order.

Wishing everyone a brilliant summer!  Happy Reading!

  1. SO thankful to hear Mouse is ok and hey at least you put shoes on her. There was an emergency in my family once where an adult who shall not be named went to the ER with none on at all!

    Take care,

    1. I am glad she is okay too. It was quite a scare. I'm not sure I'm quite over it yet either. That's too funny about the shoes!

  2. I'm so glad she's okay! As the mother of four - three of them boys - we have definitely had our share of trips to the ER. I hope you enjoy your blogging break - and have a wonderful summer!

    1. Whew! Mouse is all over the place, always so busy. I imagine that won't be the first visit to the hospital--although I wish it was.

  3. So glad she is okay!! I had a moment like that with my daughter when she was that age, that involved her falling with a pencil in her hand. I don't think I have ever been so scared. Realizing that I had to turn her over and then not being able to tell if the pencil went into her eye or not. So scary!! It didn't, but pierced her bottom lid. ACK!

    1. That must have been awful, Ti! I am glad your daughter wasn't more seriously hurt. You just never know, do you? Mouse was hurt in the eye area too, which is why we were so worried.

  4. Very very happy to hear Mouse is OK. Blogging should never feel like work so take the breaks you need.

    1. Thanks, Suzi. I do find it a bit of a relief not to have to worry about my blog. The unexpected breaks tend to only add to my stress, but the planned ones are nice. :-)

  5. I'm so glad Mouse is ok! Oh that's so scary, isn't it? My eldest son fell when he was just around a year old too. He tripped in his bedroom and hit his head on the corner of his toy chest - he got a cut above his eye, big enough that we had to go to emergency to get it sewed up. He has a slight scar above his eyebrow from it. YOu never get over those moments, and it taught me to be careful of things with sharp corners - to this day, I try not to get tables etc that have sharp edges! Hugs to you and Mouse.

    1. Thank you, Susan. When my husband and I were shopping for a bedroom set, I was very aware of corners and made sure we got furniture with rounded corners. You just never know! Luckily, I prefer the look anyway. :-)

I am glad your son was okay. His scar adds character, I'm sure. :-)

  6. Must have missed this on FB. I'm so glad to hear that she's okay. I hate to break it to you, but more trips to the ER are in your future. (at least that's what one ER dr. told us two ER visits ago, LOL).

    1. Stacy - Gosh, I hope not! LOL I know you are probably right though. Mouse is so very active. She's bound to get into trouble again. And again.

  8. So glad to hear the Mouse is okay - but it sounds like you've got a lot of ER visits in your future! My sister had to take my nephew so many times before he was three that she finally admitted to the ER doctor that she wasn't so much crying because her son was hurt but because she was quite sure they were going to suspect her of child abuse!

    1. Lisa - I am glad she is okay too! It was quite a scare. My heart goes out to your sister. I can understand her worry! Hopefully the doctor is knowledgable--and sensible--enough to know the difference between an active child who gets into lots of trouble versus child abuse.

  9. I remember those ER days. Not fun! So relieved to hear that Mouse is okay! Blogging should be fun so take your time and post when you feel like it not when you feel you have to! (Although, I'm anxious to get your take on The Stand!) Enjoy your summer with Mouse!

    1. Linda - At least Mouse seemed to view her visit to the hospital as an adventure rather than a bad thing. She was all over the place. LOL

    1. Thanks, Kelly! Me too! Since then she's gotten in a bunch of other mischief. Fortunately no more doctor's visits. I can see it coming though, the way she likes to climb!
