BBAW: Reading Meme

It's time for the Book Blogger Appreciation Week Meme!

Instructions: We encourage you to be creative with this! Please choose one or two questions to answer or try to answer all the questions in five words or less. Or choose a picture to answer a question! Brevity is the goal of today!

Note: I'm really going to try sticking to the five words or less rule. Yes, me, Ms. Ramble-Nonstop-For-Hours-If-You-Let-Me. I should get a prize if I succeed, don't you think? Maybe a new book perhaps?

Do you snack while you read? If so, favorite reading snack?
Sometimes while I eat lunch.

Do you tend to mark your books as you read, or does the idea of writing in books horrify you?
Rarely but always in pencil.

How do you keep your place while reading a book? Bookmark? Dog-ears?
A bookmark or miscellaneous paper.

Laying the book flat open?
Don't hate me but sometimes.

Fiction, Non-fiction, or both?
Both really, but fiction mostly.

Hard copy or audiobooks?
Hard copy please.

Are you a person who tends to read to the end of chapters, or are you able to put a book down at any point?
Chapter breaks; not always possible.

If you come across an unfamiliar word, do you stop to look it up right away?
If I'm near a computer.

What are you currently reading?
Ru Freeman's A Disobedient Girl

What is the last book you bought?
Alan Bennett's The Uncommon Reader

Are you the type of person that only reads one book at a time or can you read more than one at a time?
One book, but sometimes two.

Do you have a favorite time of day and/or place to read?
Anytime and wherever I can.

Do you prefer series books or stand alone books?
I enjoy both.

Is there a specific book or author that you find yourself recommending over and over?
Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte

How do you organize your books? (By genre, title, author’s last name, etc.?)
Alphabetical by author's surname.

Want to play?

  3. Good job@ It was fun to answer in 5 words or less.

  4. If I went to go look up a word on a computer while I was reading, I'd only get back to the book hours later! Not so good. LOL. I really want to read The Uncommon Reader, good choice!

  5. LOL...If I ever stopped to look a word up on the computer, it would be hours before I ever read another page..LOL

  8. You kept it short and sweet. I had to select a few of the questions to answer because I know that I cnanot answer most of them in 5 words or less.

  9. Nicely done! I didn't even attempt it :-). I'm not so good with brevity.

I loved The Uncommon Reader - hope you get around to it soon!

  10. Great answers! Brevity isn't my strong point, either.

  11. I had a REALLY hard time being brief but think I did pretty good for me. :) Yours are pretty quick and snappy, too! Jane Eyre is a great one to recommend for sure.

  12. You're one of the few who's managed to respond in 5 words or less. I wish my books were organized. *sigh*

  13. I've got A Disobedient Girl on my wishlist - I'll look forward to your review of it.

I'm enjoying reading everyone's answers to this meme!

  15. Great job on keeping your answers short & sweet! So what book did you reward yourself with? *L*

  16. Great answers! I enjoyed the use of pictures. :)

  17. Well done! Did you buy yourself a book?

  18. So many wonderful comments! Thank you all!

Melody - When the original rules went up the week before last, the five word rule was there but I see they changed the rules when the posted the final post. They took the difficulty out of it, but I decided to stick with the old rules. LOL

Sandy - It was tough. I had to go out and buy a book with a short title so I wouldn't go over the five word limit when I listed the book I last bought.

Elena - I can't wait to see your responses!

    Book Dragon - Thank you!

Beth - It was fun, but sometimes hard. LOL

Gautami - I could have sworn I had a copy but when I went to read it, I couldn't find one. I had to correct that little error. It sounds like a delightful book. I hope we both like it!

Meghan & Diane - Technically, I only do that if I'm already at the computer. And sometimes I do get distracted . . .

  19. Iliana, Kelly & Elizabeth - Thanks! I didn't think my answers were creative enough on their own, so I decided pictures were necessary.

Jen, Heidenkind & Stacy - Jane Eyre is such a good book. It's one of my all-time favorites.

Ti - I almost chose to answer one or two but couldn't decide on which ones.

Florinda - Thank you. :-) I'm usually not so good with it either, but I thought I'd give it a shot.

I hope to read The Uncommon Reader soon. I could have sworn I had a copy already, but evidently I didn't.

Belle - Thank you! I do ramble a lot, I admit.

Trish - I can't wait to see your responses. I'm a little behind in my blog hopping and since it's bed-time, I'll have to put off my visit until tomorrow.

Brimful Curiosities - I'm glad you liked it! Every time I think of margin notes, I imagine people leaving footprints in their books. :-)

    Nise - Thank you!

Myckyee - So far I am really enjoying it. I hope you will too when you get to it.

Alexia & Jill (Softdrink) - Thanks! I ended up getting three books. They won't be in the store until Friday though--so a little delayed gratification there. I'm getting Volk's Game by Brent Ghelfi,
The Eye of Jade by Diane Wei Liang and Siren of the Waters by Michael Genelin.

  20. Woot, woot for "Jane Eyre" and "The Uncommon Reader!"

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think you absolutely deserve a new book for sticking to 5-word answers. I kind of missed that part of the instructions; I kept mine brief, but they were still a lot longer than 5 words!

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love the new lay out. The cat in font of the PC is funny.

    Lovely little meme!

  23. I still haven't mastered the art of being succinct, even with the 140 char max on twitter; extra points for your brevity here.

THE UNCOMMON READER is still on my wish list ... one day I'll get to it!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm still mad at myself for watching Jane Eyre on PBS last winter before finishing the book. What was I thinking? Now I'll never know the wonder of the literature first...I knew I should have thrown the television away years ago. ;)

  25. Well done for sticking to 5 words of less! I'm glad you treated yourself to some books. :)

  26. I really enjoyed reading your answers. I loved Jane Eyre, too.

  27. Lisa - I'm really looking forward to reading The Uncommon Reader. :-)

Memory - Thanks! I think I do too. LOL I think the five word limit was posted pre-theme day and it was changed for the official day. Since I'd pre-prepared my post, I didn't notice the change. It's probably better that I didn't. :-)

Caspette - Thank you, Mandy! I dug that photo up from my archives. I haven't had that particular monitor for years now. Parker used to always sit right in front of my monitor while I typed my letters. He still does that to my husband, but because I have a laptop, he can't do that with me anymore. Kind of makes me sad.

Dawn - Me either. Twitter is torture sometimes, having to try and say something in so few characters.

Bellezza - Oh no! There are a number of movies I want to see that I keep putting off because I haven't yet read the books. Sometimes it doesn't matter, but other times it does make a big difference for me.

Nat - Thank you! I'm looking forward to my new books.

Anna - Thanks! It's such a good novel. I need to reread it someday soon.

  28. So what book did you buy yourself?

This has been a fun one to read all the answers.

  29. Suzi - I ended up getting myself three books. Aren't I bad? I got Volk's Game by Brent Ghelfi,
The Eye of Jade by Diane Wei Liang and Siren of the Waters by Michael Genelin.
